About the Superintendent

HelenMorgan.jpgHelen Morgan is a native Californian who, after graduating from high school in 1978, attended USC. There she earned a Bachelor of Science degree and came to Hawthorne School District as a sixth grade teacher. After teaching second, fourth, fifth and sixth grades she attended CSUDH and earned a Master’s degree in educational administration.  Continuing as a teacher she was very active in the Hawthorne Elementary Teachers Association where she served as president for six years. In 1997 she became assistant principal at Jefferson School where she was serving as a special projects teacher. After a year she was promoted to principal at this same school and then moved to Eucalyptus School as principal. After two years as principal at Eucalyptus School she became the Coordinator of Professional Development where she oversaw all professional development for the staff of the Hawthorne School District. She served in this capacity for four years and then became the Director of Special Projects overseeing all state and federal categorical programs. In 2007 she returned to USC to attain a doctorate in educational leadership which was completed in 2010. That same year she was named as superintendent of the Hawthorne School District. Dr. Morgan is married and resides in Orange County with her husband.
