Spelling Bee 2015

On February 18th, the Hawthorne School District held its 9th Annual Spelling Bee for students in grades 4-6 at Hawthorne Middle School.  Twenty contestants representing seven elementary schools and three middle schools competed on stage in front of an audience comprised of friends, family, and HSD staff.  The students who competed in the district spelling bee were all winners of their classroom spelling bees and also winners or runner-ups in their school spelling bees.

After eight rounds, Lydia Neguse, a 6th grader at Bud Carson Middle School, won the competition. Lydia went on to compete in the Los Angeles County Spelling Bee on March 25th and she took 6th place in highly competitive event. We are so proud of her.
