Spelling Bee 2013

On February 20, 2013, the Hawthorne School District held its 7^th Annual Spelling Bee for students in grades 4-6 at Hawthorne Middle School.  Twenty contestants representing ten elementary and middle schools competed on stage in front of a large audience comprised of friends, family, teachers and administrators.  The students who competed in the district spelling bee were all winners of their classroom spelling bees and also winners or runner-ups in their school spelling bees.   

After 10 rounds, winner Deandre Gimeno, a 6^th grader at Hawthorne Middle School, won the competition. Deandre will go on to compete in the Los Angeles County Spelling Bee in Alhambra on March 27^th.  The Hawthorne School District is proud of all of the contestants and wishes Deandre the very best at the county bee!
