Pet Extravaganza 2012

October 13^th saw a new event in the city of Hawthorne. It was the Family and Pet Extravaganza. The day was filled with dog shows including: diving dogs, a dog and pony show, a dancing dog, kissing dogs, and talented dogs in general. This event was the vision of Hawthorne School District Board Member, Luciano Aguilar, who started his work with dogs while in the Air Force protecting the President and Air Force One. After leaving the Air Force it was a natural transition for him to continue his work with dogs. His vision was to bring families together to enjoy our furry friends and have a day filled with fun and entertainment. His vision was realized at this event.  

In addition to the animal talent, the crowds were entertained by beautiful Folklorio Dancers, Ramona School Salsa Dancers, the drum line from Prairie Vista Middle School, and the all girl choir also from Prairie Vista. There were singers from Hawthorne Math and Science Academy, and talent from outside of the school community included Eryn Pablico and Paquito Herrera. A visit from Congresswoman Maxine Waters added to the festivities.

The funds raised from the sale of various items at the many booths and tickets for a raffle filled with fabulous prizes benefited the Hawthorne Education Foundation and the schools in the Hawthorne School District.
